I am running into a problem when attempting to export large surfaces from Radian to tif/tiff format. Radian exports the file, but appears to silently stop the export at around 4GB (I have observed this on a few lidar grid exports so far and nothing is written to the log). I have searched through the help file but can't find any mention of bigtiff so am guessing that currently only standard tiff export is supported?

The log file is as follows:

2017-08-09 18:47:51 -- Radian Studio

2017-08-09 18:47:51 -- Starting up

2017-08-09 18:47:52 -- Startup complete (0.756 sec)

2017-08-09 18:47:52 -- Create: Project1 (0.010 sec)

2017-08-09 18:48:11 -- Close: Project1 (0.008 sec)

2017-08-09 18:48:11 -- Open: D:\TECH TIF (0.006 sec)

2017-08-09 18:49:26 -- Export: D:\OTOP LIDAR.tiff (55.994 sec)

2017-08-09 18:49:53 *** Can't open file.

The final log entry is me attempting to open the exported file. The file size on disk is 4,194,271 KB.

What are the dimensions of the image and the pixel type?

The 4 GB figure is certainly suspicious, if it really stops there. Just to clarify: is it that the file is supposed to be bigger, but seems to never grow beyond 4 GB, or do you mean something else?

PS: We do support BigTIFF, at least on reads, we'll check writes.

Thanks Adam, The output should be bigger I believe but stops writing around the 4GB mark. The dimensions of this particular example are as follows:

I will try another example which is definitely over 4GB and report back.

I have just been trying with some other lidar downloaded from:

I loaded all the individual tiles into Global Mapper and exported as a tiff with 32bit pixel depth. GM said that the data was too big for export to a conventional tiff and so I switched the format to bigtiff. The resulting file size on disk was:

[WAIMAK LIDAR GM] 5,643,293 KB

I imported this into Radian:

And exported it to a new tiff file. After a period of time, I got a message saying that Radian studio had stopped working and subsequently closed.

The resulting file was as follows:

Please let me know if you wish me to ftp the Radian map. z7 compressed it is ~600MB

Thanks a lot!

No need to FTP anything just yet, we have enough to proceed.

We will get to the bottom of this. Sorry for the issue.

That's way cool, Dan. It's literally the first time anyone has seen that dialog. :-) We'll get it fixed immediately and issue an update.

There is no pride in being the first and to be fair, it is the first time I have seen it so there is a chance there may be external factors involved. Typically I believe I would see the silent fail and truncation of the output that I initially reported.

What is cool is the attitude and determination of you guys to hunt down and fix bugs/improve usability as Radian is increasingly used in the wild. Very cool.
