There have been a tragic series of fires in Sonoma and Napa valleys in California in the past few days. I was looking for near real time MODIS and similar sensing data and stumbled upon the GeoMAC site, which provides excellent consolidation of many WMS sites.

Attached is a .map intended for Viewer users that provides good layers in a sample map, presented as simply as possible for people who just might want to look at where fires are right now.

The ESRI living atlas site is a wonderful resource! A quick tip: in the Filter button at the top, choose "Layers" [It is both "Filter" and "Layers" in German as well...] so you don't get all the "web map" stuff that is useless, that is, not provided via WMS or whatever for use in other GIS packages.
