I just posted an 8 minute video that demonstrates 6 ways to get data into Postgres (PGAdmin III, ogr2ogr, shp2pgsql, Manifold 8, and Manifold 9) here.

It is getting a lot of traffic (@postgis retweeted it, so there you go..). But, what really stands out is that while there are very cool open source tools to move data (in this case a shapefile) into Postgres, Manifold 8 makes it super easy to export the data, and Manifold 9 makes it even embarrassingly so by just simply dragging the table.

This just demonstrates a shapefile to Postgres. So, the next question is but what about Autocad, geodatabases, dgn, etc.. With 9, we can grab source, after source, after source, and just drag it into Postgres or SQL Server, or Oracle, or whatever - much easier than ogr2ogr. I've done other videos on that, but now seems like a nice time to revisit those videos.

The funny thing is, 8 or 9 makes a great case to simply purchase Manifold if the only thing you have to do in life is move data into Postgres, Oracle, SQLServer, MySQL, etc.
